My Fair Trade Lady owner Donna Gottardi has the right idea: Celebrate Women's History Month by allowing Philadelphia-area and South Jersey ladies to treat themselves to a sale. (OK, fine, men, you can get in on the Women's History Month celebration, too.)
All month, Gottardi's Haddon Heights shop has put some of its gorgeous international wares on discount in March.
Stock up on cold-weather wares with 20 percent off alpaca scarves and gloves from Bolivia and Peru. Check out the shop's jewelry from around the world - at a whopping 50 percent off. The same goes for pillows from India. There's also handbags from Zambia and Bali, and kids toys for sale made in Malawi.
Gottardi has been operating the store for four years, but before that, she traveled the world - and stayed to teach as well. As she told the Inquirer in 2015: "I feel like I've been rehearsing to own the shop my whole life."
What's important is that Gottardi is committed to fair trade, meaning that the artisans who make the scarves, the pillows, and the jewelry are all compensated fairly. So even though you get a sale, the creators are still given a fair wage.
