Throwback hats to celebrate Black History Month

Celebrate Black History Month, Philadelphia sports, and look pretty fly, all at the same time.

Hat company LIDS is going throwback for a limited time to celebrate pre-integration African American sports, by releasing the Negro League Patch Collection by New Era line of caps honoring storied squads of yore.

Philadelphia is well represented in the hat line with two different offerings to choose from. The Philadelphia Stars baseball team, that featured greats like Biz Mackey, Jud Wilson, and Dick Lundy, gets a cream-colored hat emblazoned with a red "P." If you want to earn some extra credit, head to the African American Museum in Philadelphia, which has Stars memorabilia in its permanent collection.

There's also a black and gray cap that honors the Philadelphia Panthers, one of the Black Fives basketball teams, that originated at the Christian Street Colored YMCA, according to the Black Fives Foundation.

You can purchase the hats online or at LIDS stores around the area, including their Cherry Hill Mall location. Call ahead for availability.
