TV picks: National Dog Show, Anne of Green Gables, and the return of 'The Affair'

The Affair. The third-season premiere moves the story ahead three years, with Noah (Dominic West), newly released from prison, somewhat disturbed, and as annoying as ever - even in his own version of events. The performances? Still terrific. 10 p.m. Sunday, Showtime.

Marathon: The Patriots Day Bombing. Moving documentary, produced with the Boston Globe, follows some of those most affected by the April 2013 terrorist attack as they struggle to recover. 8 p.m. Monday, HBO.

Search Party. Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) stars as a twentysomething named Dory in a dark comedy in which she puts together a group to investigate the disappearance of a college acquaintance. 11 p.m. Monday, TBS.

National Dog Show. John O'Hurley (Seinfeld) hosts, with David Frei providing analysis and skaters Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir reporting on the Kennel Club of Philadelphia's annual event. Noon Thursday, NBC.

Anne of Green Gables. I'm a sucker for the story, but purists may prefer the 1985 mini-series with Megan Follows to this new TV movie. Martin Sheen stars, perhaps a bit too talkatively, as farmer Matthew Cuthbert, who, along with his sister, Marilla (Sara Botsford), takes in the orphaned Anne Shirley (Ella Ballentine). 8 p.m. Thursday, WHYY12.
