How can you say no

to a $15 wedding gown?

The Junior League of Wilmington is hosting its 34th annual Whale of a Sale featuring a wide variety of new and gently used items - furniture, clothing, antiques, children's toys, equipment, electronics, holiday items, housewares, sports equipment - at crazy cheap prices.

The prices are really low, like a newly cleaned couch for $35 or children's clothing for $2. But the real draw is for the designer finds, like items from Lilly Pulitzer and accessories from Dooney & Bourke, Burberry, Kate Spade, and Coach. If there's one indication of how much the sale will actually have, consider the location: the former Pathmark in New Castle, Del.

The key to a sale like this? Be ready to do some digging. This isn't a sprint, it's a marathon, so be eagle-eyed and vigilant for the best deals out there. Also, be nice to the competition - about 3,000 shoppers stopped by last year.

Sure, shopping is a nice benefit, but the goal is to raise funds for the Junior League, which works to train women in the Wilmington community, as well as focusing on the health and well-being of teenage girls. As if we needed a better reason to shop.
