Joss Whedon assembles Avengers to urge people to vote

JOSS WHEDON has assembled the Avengers to get out the vote.

The Los Angles Times reported that the writer and director of The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron has returned to Twitter from his social media hiatus and seeks to "Save the Day."

That's the name of his new super(hero) PAC.

Savetheday.vote calls itself "a short-form digital production company dedicated to the idea that voting is a necessary and heroic act. That every voice in this wonderfully diverse nation should, and must, be heard. That the only thing that can save democracy is the act that defines it. We are committed to fighting the apathy, cynicism and honest confusion that keeps citizens from using their vote. And to reminding an increasingly out-of-touch and compromised set of representatives that they are answerable to the people they were hired to serve."

The first video features "Avengers" Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo, plus Don Cheadle, Julianne Moore, Keegan-Michael Key, Philadelphia native Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton), Nathan Fillion, Taran Killam, Randall Park, Rosie Perez, Martin Sheen (a TV president who might actually be able to win this election) and many more-including a few sincere, not-so-famous people.

The video goes through a litany of causes that usually bring out celebs, and although it doesn't mention any candidate by name, Cheadle does call out "a racist, abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society."

While some stars were leery of participating in a partisan website, for fear of ticking off part of their fanbase, Whedon told BuzzFeed that "nobody backed out."

"I have a pathological fear of conflict, but I think this is more important than the fact that I'm a fraidy-cat," Whedon told BuzzFeed. "You cannot be afraid that people will not like you.

"The people with extreme beliefs are willing to yell until the people with more complex belief systems just want to go away," he continued. "And if you can't stand up for the thing that you know in your heart and your brain is true at a time when it means a difference to the entire world, then you have no right to stand up at all. If you cannot talk back to these people, then you get what they think you deserve."

If you write this column long enough, virtually every group and sub-group known to man will be aggrieved at some point.

The getup consisted of a long-sleeve brown shirt and long pants featuring full-body tattoos.

In the seemingly never-ending case of Alycia Lane vs. KYW-TV, Michael Colleran and Larry Mendte, Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Frederica Massiah-Jackson issued a procedural ruling Wednesday.

The ruling prohibits the defense from bringing up Lane's cop-cursing arrest in New York, but allows for information regarding the arrest to come in if both sides agree to a joint statement or agree to allow the court to make a statement, since info regarding the incident has been stipulated to by both sides.

A spokeswoman for Madame Tussauds wax museum in London says that in order to faithfully mirror the power couple's separation, the wax figures "are now featured at a respectful distance from each other."
