THE WASHINGTON POST reported that as part of her "Joining Forces" initiative, first lady

Michelle Obama

invited a group of veterans and active military to a special pre-release White House screening of

Star Trek: Beyond

.

Stars Chris Pine, Karl Urban and Simon Pegg were also guests.

President Obama was absent, but he is reportedly a "Star Trek" fan, although Mrs. Obama may not be.

"May the force be with you," she said in her welcoming remarks.

D'oh!

Urban (who plays Dr. McCoy), then added Mr. Spock's line, "And live long and prosper!"

Let's get political

Debra Messing

brought a little

Will & Grace

glamour to the new Dino's Backstage in Glenside on Wednesday, when she joined a Montgomery County Women's Roundtable discussion hosted by

State Rep. Madeleine Dean

and Montgomery County

Commissioner Val Arkoosh

.

Their goal: Rally women for Hillary Clinton.

Messing also will be in town next week to speak at the Democratic National Convention.

She'll join a diverse roster of DNC celeb speakers, which so far includes Demi Lovato, Chloë Grace Moretz, Eva Longoria, Lena Dunham, America Ferrara, Philadelphian Erika Alexander, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Scandal president Tony Goldwyn.

It's a bit of an easy target for the opposition to have a fictional president embroiled in a sex scandal speaking but ... maybe Shonda Rhimes will write his speech.

* With temperatures in the 90s, who better than Nelly ("Hot in Herre") to headline a charity event as part of DNC Week in Philadelphia? And who better to open for Nelly than Philadelphia's own DJ Jazzy Jeff?

The Monday evening (July 25) concert at Union Transfer (1026 Spring Garden St.) will benefit Musicans On Call, which brings music to the bedsides of patients in nursing homes, hospitals, veterans hospitals and hospices. The event will be sponsored by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The concert fundraiser is by invitation only, but there will be a red carpet outside Union Transfer before the show. Doors open at 10 p.m. The show will start 30 to 45 minutes later.

Jon Gosselin is cookin'

The 50-year-old T.G.I. Friday's chain may have 900 restaurants around the world, but only the Lancaster spot has a reality-TV star cooking up Sriracha Shrimp Rolls.

Jon Gosselin, who became famous teaming with then-wife Kate on the TLC series Jon & Kate Plus Eight and then became infamous soon thereafter as their marriage crumbled and led to divorce, is now a cook at T.G.I. Friday's in the heart of Amish country, near an Apple store and Olive Garden.

"He works here because he likes to cook," restaurant manager/Gosselin friend Scott Trompeter told the New York Post's Page Six on Wednesday. "He cooks during the day for me and sometimes here and there. He's done a great job the last couple of months. He's part of my Friday's family."

Trompeter added that Gosselin cooks three days a week, just because he loves it.

Whose mouth doesn't water at the sizzle of a rare Jack Daniels New York Strip?

"He does a great job, but I know one thing for certain, he does donate his check every week," Trompeter told Page Six, but was unsure which charity received Gosselin's earnings.

When he's not in the kitchen, Gosselin can sometimes be found in the dining room, working as a deejay.
