Ellen Gray's TV picks: 'Zoo,' 'Scream,' 'Extant' and more

* LARRY KRAMER IN LOVE & ANGER. 9 tonight, HBO. Portrait of playwright/AIDS activist Larry Kramer ("The Normal Heart") commemorates his 80th birthday, a milestone he reached on Thursday.

* LARRY KRAMER IN LOVE & ANGER. 9 tonight, HBO.

Portrait of playwright/AIDS activist Larry Kramer ("The Normal Heart") commemorates his 80th birthday, a milestone he reached on Thursday.

*  ZOO. 9 p.m. Tuesday, CBS3.

James Wolk stars in adaptation of a James Patterson bestseller, playing a zoologist who, while running safaris in Africa, begins to realize that other animals may be out to get us. If this doesn't get Fox to bring back "When Animals Attack," nothing will.

*  SCREAM. 10 p.m. Tuesday, MTV.

Inspired by the Wes Craven / Kevin Williamson film series, it's at least smart enough to question how that could work as a TV show.

*  FRONTLINE: GROWING UP TRANS. 10 p.m. Tuesday, WHYY12.

Thoughtful, provocative look at the changing options for transgender children and teens, some involving medical interventions that even those treating them consider experimental. Story, Page 27.

*  EXTANT. 10 p.m.

Wednesday, CBS3.

David Morrissey and Jeffrey Dean Morgan join the cast as the sci-fi series returns with astronaut Molly Woods (Halle Berry) in a mental hospital. Wondering how she got there? Worry not. That's what the flashbacks are for.

*  AQUARIUS. 9 p.m.

Thursday, NBC10.

I don't care about Charlie Manson, but as procedurals go, '60s-set "Aquarius" isn't half bad. This week, Detective Sam Hodiak (David Duchovny) faces resistance from a studio while investigating the murder of one of its stars.

*  A CAPITOL FOURTH. 9 p.m. Friday, WHYY12.

Bradley Whitford hosts the live annual Fourth of July celebration on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Expect fireworks, Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" and a tribute to Frank Sinatra.
