Celebs observe MLK day

On Sunday in Selma, Ala., site of the 1965 marches led by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., boldfacers from the film Selma marched with hundreds of others. Oprah Winfrey was in front, along with Selma director Ave DuVernay and star David Oyelowo. All three, we might add, got stiffed for Oscar noms. Selma got only two noms: for best picture and best song. Oyelowo was also in Atlanta, to visit Ebenezer Baptist Church for a tribute to King. On Monday's holiday, social media were ablaze with posts and remembrances from celebs including Beyoncé (quoting King: "True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice"), Philly's own Patti LaBelle, Philly's own Christina Perri and Kevin Hart, as well as Bill Clinton, Justin Bieber, Lenny Kravitz, Mark Ruffalo, Azealia Banks, Sara Bareilles, Ciara, Moby, Marc Anthony, Snoop Dogg, and Carol King.

International selfie kerfuffle!!

OK, so the Miss Universe swivet is coming up next Sunday, Jan. 25. Miss Israel, Doron Matalon, was hangin' with her sister contestants when she took a selfie and posted it on Instagram. Left to right, it shows Matalon; Miss Lebanon, Saly Greige; Miss Slovenia, Urška Bracko; and Miss Japan, Keiko Tsuji. Well, some heads went boom. Lebanon and Israel are in a technical state of war, see. Screams were screamed about Matalon and Greige being in any photo together. Treason. One or both should get booted, etc. So Greige, accusing Matalon of ambushing her, went and made it worse, by reposting the image, but cropping out Matalon. Not very nice. Now everybody's 'splainin' and nobody's listenin'.

Dunham in damage control

Notice how, when a new season of a big cable show kicks off, the stars go all over the media and say obnoxious, demented things? Then explain? Then apologize? Then explain the apology? So that's, like, four sets of headlines for you? Lena Dunham, genius behind HBO's Girls, is one of the best at it. She told Time Out that director Judd Apatow's recent hate-spew against Bill Cosby was sort of like a Holocaust obsession. No, it doesn't make sense, but hang on a second and we'll be done. Even Dunham realized her bogusitude and was soon captioning an Instagram post: "I'm already aware comparing Bill Cosby to the Holocaust wasn't my best analogy. With Love from your special rape-hating Jew friend LENA."

Huckabee vs. Bey, Part Dos

Notice how someone running for president goes all over the media and etc.? In his new book, Mike Huckabee calls President Obama a bad daddy for letting daughters Sasha and Malia listen to Beyoncé, whose lyrics are "obnoxious and toxic mental poison." Now he's on his backward bike, calling Queen Bey a "mega-talent." . . . C'mon, Beyoncé, say something piquant about M-Huck. You know you want to.

'Sniper' sniping gets snippy

American Sniper made a staggering $90 million its first weekend out, a record. Let the generous statements begin! Seth Rogan (The Interview) says it "kind of reminds me of the movie that's showing in the third act of Inglourious Basterds." That was Stolz der Nation, a Nazi propaganda flick in that film. The shy, reticent Michael Moore blast-tweeted that "snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse."
