Miss America's internship leads to unplanned controversy

IT DOESN'T take much for people to get on our nerves these days, because everyone seems to be looking to be outraged.

Miss New York, Kira Kazantsev, the shiny new Miss America, is taking grief from a subset of conservatives because it has come to light via her LinkedIn profile that she interned for three months at an office of Planned Parenthood in Long Island.

She did not perform abortions.

As far as anyone knows, she was not in the room for any abortions nor did she counsel any women to get abortions. As Planned Parenthood has stated repeatedly, 97 percent of what it does is not abortions.

Kira reportedly assisted with education programs, which could mean talking to young women about pregnancy prevention or re-stocking the circulars.

But according to the Huffington Post, Miss America is now Miss Pariah in some circles.

LifeNews.com wrote: "So the woman representing the nation as the new Miss America interned for the very organization that has killed millions of Americans in abortions."

Tweets proclaimed that Miss America "doesn't VALUE LIFE," "This is your Miss America in bizzarro insane libtard land. No talent and worked at Planned Parenthood" and "This chick sure doesn't represent me. She should've been disqualified for Miss America."

Well, you're right, whoever you are, she doesn't represent you nor does she represent the nation. The nation didn't vote. A handful of celebrity judges did. And the guy from "The Bachelor" hosted, not Walter Cronkite.

For goodness sake, the woman won a beauty, uh, scholarship pageant. She played "Happy" (and not very well) by banging a red plastic cup on the floor. She is not a policy-maker. Ninety-nine percent of you will never hear her name again until she passes on the crown next year.

So, in the immortal words of "Frozen," let it go. There are plenty of real things to be outraged about.

Like Joan Rivers' doctor taking a selfie while the late comedian was under anesthesia.

That's just twisted.

Get Iggy with it

TMZ.com reports that Iggy Azalea has filed suit against her ex-boyfriend Hefe Wine, accusing him of downloading the entire contents of her personal computer back in 2009 while they were living together in Atlanta.

He also reportedly shot a sex tape with her that is now being shopped around, but for now that's an issue for another suit.

In July, Hefe announced that he was putting out a new Iggy EP that will "shock the world." Her suit accuses him of using the stolen data to create this new release.

Iggy also accuses Hefe of forgery. She says that the rights document she's supposed to have signed for him was a cut-and-paste from another document.

TATTBITS

* The customized Captain America chopper that Peter Fonda rode in "Easy Rider" is for sale.

The auction house Profiles in History told the Associated Press it estimates that the Harley-Davidson will bring $1 million to $1.2 million at its Oct. 18 sale being held online and at its galleries in Calabasas, Calif.

The seller is Cali businessman Michael Eisenberg, who once co-owned an L.A. motorcycle-themed restaurant with Fonda and "Easy Rider" co-star, Dennis Hopper. Eisenberg bought the bike last year from Dan Haggerty, perhaps best known as "Grizzly Adams," who was in charge of keeping the custom-designed bike humming during the 1969 movie's filming.

Four motorcycles were created for the movie, but only this one, which is used during the movie's climax, is known to have survived.

Eisenberg said he plans to donate "a significant amount" of the proceeds to the American Humane Association to honor Fonda's involvement in the organization.

Liza Minnelli is said to be resting comfortably in a California hospital after undergoing back surgery earlier this week.

"I am overwhelmed with the amount of love and caring that has been sent my way from all over the world," Liza said in a statement yesterday.

Minnelli's back injury prevented her from performing most of the year or attending the funeral of Joan Rivers in New York this month. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Here's hoping her surgeon didn't take a selfie.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Liam Neeson and Bono have been working on a screenplay together for six years.

The brief pitch sounds a little like "The Commitments."

The movie we think it should be: "U2 Have Been Taken."
