Joan Rivers' surgeon steps down

Plus: Young love, Dunham's "Girls" room trouble and more.

THIS WEEK we declare this Celebrityville space to be free of NFL shame and free of the clueless comments of local celebrity athletes who apparently have no regard for the food-service industry. Instead, we report on love, both creepy and unknown, and revised tour dates for Cher, who will perform Dec. 2 in Allentown. The Sept. 15 date is no longer. Enjoy the read.

The surgeon involved in the medical procedure performed on Funny Lady Joan Rivers, who later went into cardiac arrest during the surgery and died almost a week later - has stepped down after being asked to resign, New York's WABC Eyewitness News reported. Dr. Lawrence B. Cohen was also the medical director at Yorkville Endoscopy, which is now under investigation by New York state health officials since River's death.

Sources told the New York station that an ear, nose and throat specialist was present inside Yorkville Endoscopy's operating room both during Rivers' procedure and when she went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing, despite the fact that the doctor was not authorized to practice medicine in the clinic.

Neither the unidentified specialist nor Cohen have been accused of any wrongdoing.

A month or so ago, Celebrityville noted that music icon Neil Young filed for divorce from Pegi, his wife of 36 years. Now we know why. The rocker has hooked up with actress Daryl Hannah, best known for the '80s feature "Splash" and her environmental activism. Young, 68, and Hannah, 53, have "been dating for months," a source told People. "They've taken no effort to hide it."

Meanwhile, Young's former bandmate, David Crosby, may have known about the new couple as well. "I happen to know that [Neil] is hanging out with somebody that's a purely poisonous predator now," David told the Idaho Statesman.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford nixed his reelection bid after he revealed earlier this week that doctors found a tumor in his abdomen. Biopsy tests are expected next week.

His brother, Doug Ford, filed papers to enter the mayoral race, according to Huffington Post Canada. The election is set for Oct. 27.

Warning: Reading the following may result in a much-needed shower. "Scarface" actor Steven Bauer, 57, is dating 18-year-old Lyda Loudon, a source confirmed to Us Weekly.

She is the daughter of Fox News contributor Gina Loudon and John Loudon, a former Missouri senator, Hollywood Life reported. Lyda is apparently the founder of Tea Party Youth, according to some websites, and the group aims to lead "the charge to revolutionize the way the Tea Party is reaching out to young people," according to the Tea Party Youth blog.

Bauer played Manny Ribera in the iconic movie and currently stars in "Ray Donovan" (but our favorite Bauer role was as Joe Pena in the PBS bilingual sitcom "Que Pasa, USA?" back when he went by his real name: Rocky Echevarria).

In more Joan Rivers news, multi-talented hyphenate Hugh Jackman, who performed at her funeral in New York City, revealed that the comedienne had asked him to take part in her send-off 11 years ago.

Rivers saw the "X-Men" star perform "Quiet Please, There's a Lady on Stage" in 2003 when he starred in "The Boy from Oz."

"It's a beautiful celebration of a woman, and it was for her, and the entire audience in the synagogue got up and started clapping and cheering," Jackman said.

Tuesday

Singer Nick Jonas let it all hang out and surprised about 1,000 people when he performed a striptease at a New York City gay club, WENN reported.

Monday

A male airline attendant accidentally walked in on actress/writer Lena Dunham while she peed on a New York to Los Angeles flight, she shared on the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" show.

"He shrieked like there was a monster from the great beyond . . . I didn't know what to do; I was just like, 'That was so much worse for you than it is for me . . . !' He looked so traumatized."
