Life, Life, Love

Philadelphians on the Air

At 1 p.m. Sunday, WRTI-FM (90.1) celebrates the long, fruitful relationships of Sergei Rachmaninoff and Richard Strauss with the Philadelphia Orchestra in a rebroadcast of a concert from November 2013. Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 opens the program, with a remarkable performance by Curtis-trained Yuja Wang. Then the Philadelphians continue their celebration of the 150th anniversary of Strauss' birth with the mighty tone poem Serenade for 13 Wind Instruments, Op. 7, and, to conclude, Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life), which Strauss himself conducted in Philadelphia in 1921. This time, Yannick Nézet-Séguin wields the baton.
