Coming pop shows: Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Billy Joel, and Temples

Miley Cyrus/Katy Perry

If you don't already have tickets to either of these two primary-colored pop divas coming to the Wells Fargo Center in the next week, you'll have to seek them on the secondary market. Tickets to both Miley Cyrus' Saturday night show - rescheduled from its original date in May after the headliner was hospitalized due to an allergic reaction to medication - and the Monday and Tuesday shows by Katy Perry are sold out.

Cyrus' "Bangerz" show, which features the former Hannah Montana child star riding atop a giant hot dog and maybe singing sad, heartbroken songs to a giant statue of her recently deceased dog, Floyd, will be the more provocative affair. For added value, cheeky English singer Lily Allen has been added to the bill. Perry's "Prismatic" tour, meanwhile, is in support of Prism, the candy-colored pop singer's 2013 album. Initially presented as a more contemplative, mature affair, Prism has revealed itself over time as yet another collection of bouncy, bold-stroke hit singles, the latest of which is the playfully risqué "Birthday."

Billy Joel

More than 20 years after Billy Joel last released a pop album or had a Top 10 hit, the Long Island piano man still can, and does, sell out stadiums. His decades-long career has been marked with both massive success - 33 Top 40 hits; 150 million records sold, six Grammy awards - and well-documented drama (celebrity divorces, rehab stints, and a few business-related lawsuits).

Now Joel, 65, is getting the level of critical respect die-hard fans feel he's always been denied. In November, he'll be presented with the prestigious Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, joining the ranks of Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, and Sir Paul McCartney.

So who cares if recording pop music doesn't seem to interest Joel these days? Playing his hits live does, and he's a great entertainer. Fans at Saturday's Citizens Bank Park show will be treated to a lengthy, energetic set covering both early breakthrough songs - like 1974's "The Entertainer" and fan favorite "New York State of Mind" - to mega-sellers like "Still Rock and Roll," "Big Shot," and Joel's last Top 10 hit, 1993's "River of Dreams." He'll be backed by a seven-piece band that includes saxophonist Mark Rivera, drummer Chuck Burgi, and lead guitarist Tommy Byrnes (who played a band member in Joel's 2002 jukebox Broadway musical, Movin' Out).
