THE WEEK WAS marked by the sad, stunning news of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman's tragic death and the subsequent outpouring of emotion - along with some lesser celebrity goings-on.

Yesterday

A private funeral was held for Hoffman at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan, the same church that hosted the funerals of Aaliyah and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Among the mourners, Cate Blanchett, Spike Lee, Joaquin Phoenix and Meryl Streep, the New York Daily News reported.

Hoffman was found dead Sunday in his lower Manhattan apartment from an apparent heroin overdose, leaving behind his partner of 15 years, Mimi O'Donnell, and their three children. A larger memorial service is scheduled for later this month. Broadway dimmed its lights for one minute earlier in the week.

Thursday

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and his brother Doug Ford, a city councilor, plan to launch a YouTube series called "Ford Nation." The mayor, known globally for admitting to smoking crack cocaine and public drunkenness, among other issues, had his broadcast reality show canceled after one episode last year.

Wednesday

"American Idol" runner up Clay Aiken announced that he would seek a congressional seat in North Carolina as a Democrat. He cited as qualifications for the seat his career as a special-ed teacher and his work with UNICEF.

Tuesday

The late "Fast and Furious" actor Paul Walker left a pickle and his entire $25 million estate to his daughter Meadow, 15, TMZ.com reported. Under the will, Walker requested that his mother, Cheryl, be named Meadow's guardian. Meadow lives with her mother, Rebecca Soteros.

Performer Olivia Newton-John has a temporary gig in Las Vegas that begins April 8 in the Donny and Marie Showroom at The Flamingo. The 65-year-old performer - when did that happen? - will perform 45 "Summer Nights" shows featuring songs from "Grease" and her own hits.

Monday

Director Woody Allen's alleged molestation of his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow was in the news again 22 years after the allegations first surfaced. Dylan, now 28, spoke out for the first time, criticizing Hollywood actors who work with the director, in the New York Times. Allen has yet to respond, but has requested to do so in the paper.

Moses Farrow, 36, who was also adopted by Allen and former partner Mia Farrow, spoke out in defense of Allen to People.
