A slice of the wedding cake that was served at the Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s extravagant wedding in 2011 has sold at auction for $4,160.
Is this the most money anyone has ever paid for a wedding cake that is not their own?
At two years old, the slice is pretty young compared to the 66-year-old slice of cake from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip‘s 1947 wedding that sold in July for $1,934.
The auctioneer suggested that actual consumption of the cake was inadvisable.
Kate and William’s wedding cake was an especially beautiful creation, consisting of eight tiers and a design that was based on lace from Kate’s wedding dress. Recently, part of the cake’s top tier was served to guests at the christening of Prince George.
