Between all of the cast reunions and and TV show spinoffs, 90s culture is currently experiencing a resurgence of sorts. And adding to it is Bill Nye‘s re-entry into the zeitgeist.
The science educator and TV personality was a strong presence in the lives of millennials who learned many a science lesson from his PBS program. While his show, Bill Nye the Science Guy, hasn’t created a new episode since 1998, Nye has gradually started to reappear on television.
This fall, he took a chance on the dance floor by joining Dancing With The Stars. It was short-lived, however, as the was eliminated in the third week. But that didn’t stop him from making a guest appearance as himself on last night’s episode of The Big Bang Theory. Does all of this mean he could be making a bigger return to television?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nye revealed a desire to return to the small screen. When asked if his stint on Dancing With The Stars this fall, and his guest role on The Big Bang Theory means he’s trying to get back into television, he responded, “oh yeah.”
“This is a turn of phrase, but the phone has been ringing off the hook,” he continued. “Really, the email has been dinging in like crazy with a lot of networks and cable channels that want me to work with. I’ll be on CNN this afternoon! So I’m hoping to parlay this into a show again. Because that really is my first love and that’s where I’d like to get back to work. Also, this may be delusional, but I feel like I have something to say.”
