With Guthrie, ‘Today' no better than yesterday

So after NBC's public flogging of Ann Curry followed by a round of new commercials with her beaming, laughing, younger replacement, Savannah Guthrie, what did it all mean to "Today"?Bupkis. The former morning juggernaut was beaten last week by "Good Morning America" by 357,000 viewers, the Nielsen Co. said.

So after NBC's public flogging of Ann Curry followed by a round of new commercials with her beaming, laughing, younger replacement, Savannah Guthrie, what did it all mean to "Today"?

Bupkis.

"GMA" drew an average of 4.57 million viewers, compared with 4.21 million for "Today," according to preliminary figures.

This represents the largest lead by "GMA" over "Today" in more than 17 years, while extending its top-ranked status to three consecutive weeks, ABC said.

And for the first time in ages, Ann Curry smiled.

Keeping up with the kayakers

In a beautiful bit of synergy, E! Entertainment is bringing "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" family patriarch Bruce Jenner, the 1976 decathlon gold medalist, to London to be part of the network's Olympics coverage. E! is part of the ComcastNBCUniversal family and everyone in the family will be getting a chance to shine.

The company is building a studio for E! so celebrities and athletes can stop by for interviews. Its coverage, anchored by the witty, not-too-sycophantic Giuliana Rancic, will be featured on the network's entertainment newscasts. The idea is to showcase the lighter side of the games, the parties or athletes whose personalities have broken through.

Ugh.

Jenner will attend with "reporters" Catt Sadler, Ross Mathews and Robbie Laughlin. News correspondent Melanie Bromley, a former London resident, will be on the party circuit and give E! viewers a taste of London nightlife, even though the only things worth tasting in London are the fish & chips and the Indian food.

The only E! tie-in, however, that Tattle wants to see is an episode of "Fashion Police" on the opening ceremonies.

Speaking of E!, the network has reported that 6-year-old fashionista Suri Cruise will soon have an easier time deciding how to dress in the morning.

A Catholic School uniform will do just fine, thank you very much.

Katie Holmes has enrolled her daughter with Tom Cruise in Manhattan's Convent of the Sacred Heart, the prestigious Catholic girls school, whose famous alumnae include Caroline Kennedy, Gloria Vanderbilt, Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton, proving once again that you get out of school what you put into it.

Charlie Sheen announced Monday that he'll donate at least $1 million to the USO in what is among the largest single donations ever given to the troop morale-boosting organization.

Sheen said he'll donate 1 percent of profits from his new FX show "Anger Management" to the group. He'll give a minimum of $1 million with no cap on the final amount.

Sheen's donation will be used as part of an ongoing campaign to help injured troops. Said the "Platoon" star: "It's an honor for me to be able to give back to these men and women of the military who have done so much for all of us."

A new study has found that YouTube is emerging as a major platform for news, especially for eyewitness videos of major events and natural disasters.

And cute babies talking to cats.

Or cute cats talking to babies.

The Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism on Monday released its examination of 15 months of the most popular news videos on the Google-owned site. It found that while viewership for TV news still easily outpaces those consuming news on YouTube, the video-sharing site is a growing digital environment where professional journalism mingles with citizen content.

The Japanese earthquake and tsunami was the most-viewed news event during the length of the study, which spanned January 2011 to March 2012. The top videos from Japan included footage from surveillance cameras, a news network and a Japanese Coast Guard vessel -- a typical variety of sources.

Such dramatic events were often among the most watched videos. Other popular news events included the Russian elections, unrest in the Middle East, the collapse of a fair stage in Indiana and the crash of an Italian cruise ship.

The 67-acre Double R ranch that once belonged to the late King of the Cowboys Roy Rogers (who was a Westerns star before he became known for fast food) has been sold for $645,000.

The Mojave Desert ranch includes a 1,700-square-foot home, a red barn, a stable with 15 stalls, a half-mile horse track and fenced pastures.

The Victorville Daily Press reports the Williams & Williams Worldwide auction firm sold the ranch to the highest bidder last week.

Eric and Anne Enriquez of Orange County restored the property after buying it 10 years ago for $300,000 so they made a decent profit.

The new owner is Margaret Tom, a retired social worker from Kaneohe, Hawaii (who must have invested wisely). She says she's giving the ranch to her daughter and son-in-law to keep their Arabians.

And before anyone sends Tattle any nasty mail, Arabians are horses.
