‘SideShow': Katie Holmes is Catholic again; Britney storms off ‘X Factor'; Morgan Freeman on Obama

Katie Holmes is again in the arms of the Catholic Church she left to join the Scientology of husband Tom Cruise. Now that TomKat are splitting up, Kat has signed up at the Parish of St. Francis Xavier in Manhattan. This tends to corroborate, though not prove, that religion was involved in the split, specifically the faith in which daughter Suri, 6, will be raised. Tom tends to marry Catholics: think of his second wife, Nicole Kidman. He learned about Scientology from his first wife, Mimi Rogers.

Britney storms out — again!

"Oops! ... I Did It Again" singer Britney Spears stormed off The X Factor set Monday night when a would-be male contestant dressed in drag assayed her song "(You Drive Me) Crazy." So that's a no vote?

Mr. Freeman explains it for you

According to revered sociologist Morgan Freeman, Barack Obama is not America's first black president, like everyone keeps saying. He told NPR host Michel Martin that "Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America. ... America's first black president hasn't arisen yet. He's not America's first black president, he's America's first mixed-race president."

Now let's go shoot us some steer

Speaking of stereotypes, everyone knows drummers are flaky. Take Peter Brown, drummer for right-wing rocker Ted Nugent. T-Nuge had just finished rockin' the Bangor, Maine, waterfront pavilion with Styx and REO Speedwagon. And then drummer Pete was spotted acting as if he was stealing a golf cart. Confronted by police, our hero bravely leaped aboard his cart and tried to escape. But since that's a dumb idea, he was charged with theft, and DUI. Dude! A DUI on a golf cart?

Tidbits 'n' pieces

Lawrence of Arabia and Becket star Peter O'Toole, 79, is out of the thespianing biz. "It's time for me to chuck in the sponge," he says. "The heart for it has gone out of me: it won't come back." ... Coldplay will explain the concept behind its Mylo Xyloto LP with a six-part comic series. ... Factory Girl star Sienna Miller, 30, and fiance Tom Sturridge have welcomed a baby girl named Marlow, says E! News. She's named after Joseph Conrad's Heart Of Darkness narrator (Entertainmentwise.com) or "the famous Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe" (Glamour U.K.). Why not Philip Marlowe?

The first lady on parenting

Parents need to help children retain their values in a dehumanized world, first lady Michelle Obama tells Parenting mag.

"I tell my kids that you have to practice who you want to be every day," she says. "You won't wake up in 20 years and become a compassionate person if you're not practicing that along the way."

Values even define beauty, says the Bigger O (as opposed to the Big O, Oprah). "Barack and I always tell our girls that you can be smart, you can be beautiful, but if you don't know how to treat people ... if you're not looking out for the girl who's sitting alone by herself … then who are you?"
