MUSIC

FAMILY AFFAIR

The indie artist's best pal (and locally based) DiskMakers has been pressing and packaging discs for musicians and labels since the golden age of vinyl. And many of DiskMakers' own employees are music makers too, as the 12th annual DM Palooza attests. Its 15 spotlighted acts, including the likes of Brenda Barry, Kojak, The Musical Chairs and The Indefinite Dyad, all include at least one employee of the organization, though the party's open to all.

Upstairs at World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St., 7:30 tonight, $5, 215-222-1400, www.worldcafelive.com

PAYTON'S PLACE

Before earning his national rep as one of the best "new traditionalist" jazz trumpeters, Nicholas Payton was a big fan of contemporary R&B, too. Now he's come full circle. On his "Bitches" album released by the German label inandout-records.com, Payton lends voice as well as horn to an intriguing hybrid of soul 'n jazz. And all in service of a frank, original song cycle sparked by the ups and downturn of his marriage. Will Payton vent both personalities here?

Chris' Jazz Cafe, 1421 Sansom St., 8 and 10 p.m. tomorrow, $30-$25, 215-568-3131, www.chrisjazzcafe.com.

THEATER

ALL ABOUT EVE

In 1996, when Eve Ensler first delivered "The Vagina Monologues" Off-Broadway, the V-word could still shock the populace. But that was before it became the go-to word for a cheap laugh on network sitcoms. (See CBS' "Two Broke Girls.") Yet all these years later, the play still packs an emotional punch.Since 1998 it's been used to raise funds for social justice under the umbrella of V-Day. This weekend's V-Day performances at the University of Pennsylvania will raise money for Women Organized Against Rape, the city's only rape-crisis center. They'll be adding to the $75,000 they've raised for the organization over the past three years.

Irvine Auditorium, 8 tonight and tomorrow (doors open at 7:15 p.m.), $10, 917-660-6640.

Carvers will compete for cash prizes (top prize is $2,000) in this National Ice Carvers Association-sanctioned event. And there's a People Choice Award too, presented on Sunday.

Manayunk on Ice, Main Street, 6-8 tonight, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. tomorrow, noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Free. www.manayunk.com
