Sideshow: Taiwan city honors hero on Lady Gaga Day

Independence Day Eve? That'd be Lady Gaga Day. The Taiwanese city of Taichung declared Sunday Lady Gaga Day to honor the postmodern, post-goth, para-disco, Pre-Raphaelite leader.

Independence Day Eve?

That'd be Lady Gaga Day.

The Taiwanese city of Taichung declared Sunday Lady Gaga Day to honor the postmodern, post-goth, para-disco, Pre-Raphaelite leader.

Why is she such a hero to the people? Did her Gagaship bring lasting peace between Taiwan and mainland China?

Close: She performed - for the very first time - in the island nation.

NBC says the streets were lined with flags (and paved with gold?), there were discounts at hotels for folks dressed as Gaga and a show by Tai Ya tribal children.

Her GaGaNess was presented with the keys to the city. Hope she doesn't lose 'em.

Honoring a lesser artist

He's not a world-historical figure like Gaga, but Jim Morrison got some lovin' of his own Saturday when fans from around the world congregated at his grave in Paris' Pere Lachaise cemetery to mark the 40th anniversary of his death. The Doors singer, poet, would-be Nietzsche scholar, and all-around Lizard Man was 27 when he transferred his soul, Seele, âme - indeed, his Shen - to The Beyond.

Happy 25th, LiLo dear

There was partying in Lindsay Lohan's universe Saturday to mark the actress' 25th b'day. (In emotional years she's closer to 12, while her rap sheet suggests she's hit her 50s.) The New York Daily News says LiLo had a sedate evening at Geoffrey's Restaurant in Malibu. The New Yorker stayed in California "because she has community service and wanted to concentrate on that," her dad, Michael, says.

Tidbits 'n' pieces

Surprise: Maria Shriver, who delivered Arnold Schwarzenegger California's Democrats, has filed for divorce from the Govinator. . . . Even Taylor Swift calls in sick: The warbler postponed Saturday's sold-out show in Louisville, Ky., because of an undisclosed malady. "This is my first time having to do this," Swift tweets. "I'm so, so sorry."

'Transformers' makes $

Roundly trounced by critics, Michael Bay's third toy-inspired pic, Transformers: Dark of the Moon nonetheless excited moviegoers' imaginations (and wallets), $97.4 mil domestically in its first weekend, according to studio estimates. That's down from the $109 million first weekend for the second film in the Hasbro series, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

But it was good enough to beat Disney cartoon Cars 2, which is at No. 2 in the box office charts, earning $66.1 mil on its opening weekend. Filthy words and Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake's hot bods helped Bad Teacher grab third place with $14.1 mil.
