Sideshow: Clooney and Canalis no longer an item

Hope is a deadly disease. Just ask Elisabetta Canalis. The Italian beauty's aspirations (for superstardom? For everlasting love?) were dashed this week when she was handed her walking papers by that most sublimely masterful of pro bachelors, George Clooney.

Hope is a deadly disease. Just ask Elisabetta Canalis.

The Italian beauty's aspirations (for superstardom? For everlasting love?) were dashed this week when she was handed her walking papers by that most sublimely masterful of pro bachelors, George Clooney.

"We are not together anymore. It's very . . . personal and we hope everyone can respect our privacy," the duo said in a statement Wednesday.

Clooney, 51, isn't one to show off his gal-pals, so it was a big deal when he debuted Canalis, 32, as his gf in '09.

But the Ocean's Eleven star, who divorced Talia Balsam in '93 after four years, could never go all the way. He told Piers Morgan in January he'd be a bachelor unto death.

Canalis, who was smokin' hot in Leverage last year, doesn't agree. "I am a firm believer in marriage," she told Italian mag Chi this month. It's all so sad: She also told the mag, "I am very happy at the moment - thanks to my man and my fairy tale is continuing."

Glen Campbell: I have Alzheimer's

Glen Campbell, 75, has Alzheimer's disease, the country music legend and his wife, Kim, revealed to People on Wednesday.

"I still love making music," says Campbell, diagnosed six months ago. "And I still love performing for my fans. I'd like to thank them for sticking with me through thick and thin."

The singer plans to make a farewell tour this fall. His wife said his medications can make him seem unsteady. "Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer," she said. "But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn't want people to think, 'Is he drunk?' "

Galliano takes the stand

Fashion designer John Galliano, 50, took the stand in a Paris court Wednesday in his one-day trial on charges of making anti-Semitic slurs at a Paris cafe. Galliano, fired by Dior after the incident, is charged with making "public insults based on origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity."

Galliano claimed he didn't remember his actions because of a "triple addiction" to alcohol, barbiturates, and sleeping pills, adding that he is "in recovery."

After watching a video a customer took of him at the cafe, Galliano said, "I see someone who needs help . . . I see a man who has been pushed to the edge."

He could face up to six months in jail and $32,175 in fines. The verdict is expected this month.

Loving her body with heavenly help

We all have to learn to love our bodies. They are like ourselves, or something. That quest, learning to embrace her body, wasn't easy for Katy Perry, who tells Rolling Stone about her remarkable Bildung - her social, cultural, and, above all, spiritual upbringing.

"I started praying for [breasts] when I was, like, 11," Katy tells the mag. Her extraordinary maturation catapulted her into the stratosphere: "And God answered that prayer above and beyond, by, like, 100 times, until I was like, 'Please, stop, God. I can't see my feet anymore. Please stop!' "

Love . . . with fangs

He was dumbfounded, thunderstruck, discombobulated upon setting eyes on Anna Paquin, the lovely starlet's fang-tastic fiance tells Men's Health. "I was intrigued by her," Stephen Moyer says about his love and True Blood costar. "She was very open about work. But she was withdrawn [emotionally]. I was like, 'Here I am, here's everything I got.' I remember leaving the screen test and thinking, 'God, I'd like to spend more time with her.' "

Love's fangs - and claws - indeed!

She was loveless for eons after Brad Pitt left her for Angelina Jolie, and we mocked her for it. Now the vultures are attacking Jennifer Aniston for romancing Justin Theroux

.

Us Weekly says Gentle Jen cruelly and wantonly stole Justin from his gf of 14 years, Heidi Bivens, by resorting to Machiavellian tricks of the Jolie kind.

An Anonymous Source tells Us that Jen worked her witchery so well that Bivens was totally blindsided when Justin moved out of their New York digs this month.

In fact, Bivens "didn't know Aniston was the catalyst" behind the split.

Love's deadly Spidey Web

The Publicity Gods couldn't have done it better: Emma Stone, 22, and her Amazing Spider-Man costar Andrew Garfield, 27, fell in love on set! The film is due July 3, 2012.

"They got close during filming and have been hooking up," the busy Anonymous Source tells Us Weekly. Garfield recently dumped Raising Hope's Shannon Woodward.

Love, marriage & babies . . .

India's most beauteous being, Aishwarya Rai, 37, and her hub Abhishek Bachchan, 35, are expecting their first baby. Rai was crowned Miss World in 1994. She's known outside Bollywood for Bride and Prejudice (2004) and 2009's Pink Panther 2
