* There's salsa and then there's salsa. One you eat, one you do with your feet and both can be
muy caliente. The third Sunday of each month Paxia (746 Christian St., 215-413-0171) Mexican restaurant offers a three-course meal for $25, then beginner dance lessons from Society Hill Dance Academy's Tim Cartlidge. Dinner starts at 6; reservations are suggested. The next salsa night is Jan. 18.
* Celebrate President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration Jan. 20 at Ms. Tootsie's Restaurant Bar Lounge (1312 South St., 215-985-9001). Restaurateur KeVen Parker starts things off with a happy hour, 5-7 p.m., featuring Obama-tinis. From 7-9 p.m. there will be a soul-food buffet and DJ. The five-level restaurant next to BYOB Ms. Tootsie's Soul Food Café, will have a VIP room, too.
* Chef Jose Garces' Amada (217-219 Chestnut St., 215-625-2450), a Spanish tapas bar and restaurant, has created cocktails named for Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's films. Try a "Talk to Her," made with Philadelphia's own Siembra Azul tequila, or the strawberry-balsamic old-fashioned known as the "Labyrinth of Passion." Amada also has a winter Sangria Temporada, white wine sangria laced with spiced simple syrup and Applejack brandy, topped with sparkling cider.
* City Food Tours is offering its Artisanal Beer, Cheese & Prosciutto Tasting on Jan. 17 and 31, 3:30-5:30 p.m., $45 per person. The tour includes a tasting flight of eight craft beers with imported cheeses, prosciutto and chorizo. Meet at Old City Cheese, 160 N. 3rd St.
