Goodness knows, I have nothing against the lanky lad. 'Fact, I think
Justin Long, the computer-ad "Mac guy" whose native charm landed him a juicy role in
Live Free or Die Hard, is a sweet guy. But he's never been a match for edgy chick
Drew Barrymore.
So no surprise yesterday when Drew's rep said the couple have gone bust after going steady for less than a year. The rep did not give any reasons for the breakup.
The couple dug each other so much, they worked together in the forthcoming adaptation of the self-help best-seller,
He's Just Not That Into You. (
Self-help?! I'd rather see
I'm OK, You're OK as a samurai saga.)
Recently, Drew gushed to
Oprah about her thing with Justin. "It's healthy, it's productive, and it's supportive," she said.
Oops . . .
Sparkler for LiLo
Lindsay Lohan's openly gay gal pal
Samantha Ronson gave her a $22,000 Cartier diamond ring for the
Mean Girls star's birthday. (LiLo turned 22 on July 2.)
Rumors have long linked the two women as lovers - which neither has confirmed or denied.
New show for Seymour and Hallmark?
The Hallmark Channel's
Jane Seymour-starring TV movie,
Dear Prudence, will double as a pilot of sorts, says USAToday.com. The movie is a light mystery that features Seymour as an advice columnist who stumbles into a murder.
The cabler hopes that the flick, which will air next month, will generate enough interest to become the first in a series of mysteries.
"I just thought Prudence was a really fun character and there was a long way I could go with her," says Seymour, who is beloved for her role as Dr. Quinn.
Brit to haunt Madonna's tour
Britney Spears' very soul - that is, her image - will travel along with
Madonna, 49, on the Psycho-Spirituo-Material Girl's Sticky & Sweet tour, which begins Aug. 23 in Cardiff, Wales. (In other words, Madonna will play some no doubt awe-inspiring Britney-related video footage at her concerts.)
"There is footage being shot of Britney some time this week in conjunction with" the tour, said Madge's rep,
Liz Rosenberg. She refused to elaborate on the nature of the filmed material, except to deny that Brit, 26, was shooting a music video.
Larry King conquers L.A.
From now on, you must put on suspenders - not to mention a benevolent, avuncular air - when visiting the intersection of Sunset and Cahuenga Boulevards in Los Angeles: The square is being renamed Larry King Square.
Los Angeles City Council prez
Eric Garcetti will present the square to CNN hero
Larry King tomorrow at a special ceremony.
So why that corner?
King's show originates from CNN's L.A. bureau, which is located at - you guessed it.
Cabler to cover Democrats
TV One, the cable network aimed at African American viewers, has announced that it will celebrate the presidential nomination of
Barack Obama with full coverage of the Democratic Convention in August, reports USAToday.com.
TV One will cap each day's coverage with
TV One Live: DNC Afterparty, a post-session talk show featuring
Jacque Reid,
Hill Harper,
Sheryl Underwood and University of Pennsylvania profs
Michael Eric Dyson and
Marcia Dyson.
The cabler, which was founded in 2003, has no plans to cover the Republican Convention.
Surgery for BSO's Levine
Boston Symphony Orchestra conductor
James Levine, who is scheduled to have a kidney removed in surgery this week, has canceled his appearances with BSO for the rest of the orchestra's popular Tanglewood season.
"It is extremely frustrating that I need to have this surgery now," said Levine, who will need six weeks to recover from the procedure.
"I especially regret not being here with [composer]
Elliott Carter for his 100th birthday celebration, which I was looking forward to more than I can say."
Koppel jumps ship
Ted Koppel will cover the Democratic and Republican Conventions this summer, but not for an American network. The TV news icon has joined BBC World News America as an analyst. Koppel famously walked out of the '96 GOP confab, saying it was a crass media event lacking any news worth. "I don't think anyone can make that observation this year," he said.
Baby boy for McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey and his model girlfriend,
Camila Alves (as in a "girlfriend who works as a model," as opposed to "the paradigmatic girlfriend"), have welcomed their first child, a 7-pound, 4-ounce boy.
Alves, 24, gave birth Monday night in California, McConaughey's publicist,
Alan Nierob, told the Associated Press yesterday.
"Camila and I were side by side the entire time," McConaughey told OK! mag. "We are both tired and elated, and are so happy to have created the greatest miracle in the world - having a child and making a family.
"Now comes the greatest adventure - raising one, together."
