People's Sexiest Man: Channing Tatum

People magazine has crowned Channing Tatum as the Milky Way's Sexiest Man Alive 2012.

People’s Sexiest Man: Channing Tatum

It seemed inevitable, what with his turn in the G.I. Joe franchise as all-American soldier Duke and his topless performance on Steven Soderbergh’s true-life male stripper tale,Magic Mike.

Yes, People mag has crowned Channing Tatum the Sexiest Man Alive 2012, affirming what we all have known for some time: The dude is the hunkiest of all male beings in the entire known – and unknown – galaxy.

Tatum's triumph is Philadelphia's loss: He supplants Bradley Cooper, who was anointed Sexiest Man Alive in 2011.

He’s got the creds: The six-foot-one-inch former stripper and actor is a lean 195 pounds (“like to be lean. If I get too bulky I can't move well and I like to move,” Tatum tells People.)

As an actor he’s in demand, and then some: Tatum, who’ll play an Olympic athlete in next year's Foxcatcher, has been busy: He was featured in five movies last year, three this year and he's set to star in at least four (possiblye six) pics in 2013, including G.I. Joe: Retaliation and White House Down.

Tatum: overjoyed, bowled over

“Thanks!” :) Channing, 32, tweeted this morning on hearing the news.

Tatum, who has been married to actor Jenna Dewan-Tatum for three years, tells People, he was bowled over by the honor.

“My first thought was, 'Y'all are messing with me’,” says Tatum. “I told Jenna after we’d been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they'd gotten skunked.”

Tatum adds, “She was like, ‘What’?”

I’m all tingly: Gosh Channing Tatum washes his dog! Himself! Bet his top got all wet and clung to his perfect torso!

People mag truly has helped Tatum’s rep. His wife, he says, “Yeah, she calls me [the Sexiest Man Alive] now,”

People adds, “And who can blame her?”

I won’t.

He's ready to make perfect babies

People continues to gush: “[The] heartthrob of a husband is also a sculptor who quotes Edgar Allan Poe, loves to give her massages and can't wait to start their family.”

Talk about a perfect gene pool.

Tatum, who met Jenna, then a dancer, on the set of the 2006 dance pic Step Up, is rearing to get the ball rolling and make lotsa babies.

“I’m ready; I think she's ready,” he says. “The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we’ll see where we go after that.”

But who’s happy with just one?

"It’s really easy for us guys to say, 'I want like 15 kids’,” Tatum says. “Jenna will be like, ‘Well you better get another wife’!”

The obstacles in his way

Tatum, who was born and raised in Cullman, Ala., the son of an airline worker mum and a construction worker dad, has had his share of troubles.

He gave up a college football scholarship as a young’n (he says school bored him) and instead earned a living as a male dancer in Tampa. (His experiences with the erotic revue are recounted in Magic Mike, which is availalbe on DVD and Blu-ray from Warner Home Entertainment.)

Tatum also suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder, he told GQ in 2011, and “something like dyslexia.”

Indeed, Tatum has overcome so many obstacles to become the man he is today – the sexiest man alive.

A hunk with the soul of spiritual healer

But Tatum isn’t just a perfect specimen with good muscle tone, a flirty smile and great hair to die for. He has depth.

Jenna, 31, gets the last word.

“People know him to be fun and sexy, but they don't know how emotionally deep and spiritually open he is” she says.

“He is such an open-hearted person; what you see is what you get.”
