QVC host passes out on air
But the hard sell never stops
QVC host passes out on air
David Hiltbrand, Inquirer TV Critic
Warning: What you’re about to see is pretty scary.
It happened Sunday night in the mammoth West Chester studios of home shopping network QVC. Regular host Dan Hughes welcomes guest pitcher Cassie Slane to help him sell an Android computer tablet for children.
The marketing spirit is strong but the flesh is weak.
As soon as Slane’s arm shakily goes down to brace herself on the counter, you can clearly see she’s in trouble. She starts slurring her words and gesturing and then just keels over.
But that’s not the scary part. It’s how smoothly Hughes continues about his business as the camera cuts away.
Does that strike you as a little cold?
The good news is that Slane, a mother of three who lives in Merion Park, responded to concerned fans on her Facebook page yesterday: “Thanks to everyone for your kind words. I am feeling alot better today!”
Carolyn Gracie, the QVC personality who finished out the Sunday segment for Slane posted, “She had a couple of fainting spells due to low blood sugar. Poor thing. She is such a nice girl.”
And for our first 500 callers….

- Doesn't strike me as being a "little cold". It strikes me as being a professional and carrying on with your job, even if it's something as trivial as peddling android tablets.
storebrand, you are just dead wrong there. It would have been no big deal to simply say "We're going to take a break and be right back." QVC has a very loyal and family-style audience and viewers would have completely understood and even appreciated taking care of the situation over selling at all costs. bobby
You can't cut to a commercial spot when the whole network is a commercial spot. The next item was probably an hour away. The show must go on. deepsea

When sales $$$$ come before someone in need of medical attention - that's cold. no class robots... 4friedchickensandacoke
I'm sure someone came right in to help her. phillylover26
It wasn't that big of a deal. There are no commercials on QVC so the show must go on. Do we have to be so dramatic about every little thing in life? Do we have to stick our noses in everyone's business? I'm sure QVC is ready for any and all emergencies since the show is always on. Phillies2008WSChamps
Dan Hughes has no common sense whatsoever! He acts as if the viewers didn't see the lady was having a serious medical issue and collapsed in front of everyone's eyes. How ridiculous for salesman, Dan to leave that poor woman for dead on the floor so he could keep selling the useless junk. He acted like a classless cad. Remember when Marie Osmond famously fainted on live TV on Dancing with the Stars? Tom Berenger cut right to a commercial and then explained what happened the minute the show came back on the air. If Dan had an ounce of professionalism, and common sense - he would have done the same thing. QVC ought to fire that idiot. Foxclove5
She could have been having a heart attack! I can't wrap my head around the fact that he could continue hawking his wares as if nothing was happening! It's not a human response. How could you turn away from someone that could be dying and continue on like nothing is happening unless you are heartless or inhuman. I hope no one in Dan's family ever has an life or death emergency - he will be of no use! velvetblonde
Calm down. Unless you were there you have no idea what kind of condition she was in. I read elsewhere that Dan held her up while medical staff rushed in. If she was having a heart attack, I'm sure QVC would have acted appropriately. They're not going to keep selling right in front of her while EMTs are performing CPR. There's no need to get dramatic. I watched the video and I cannot believe he kept on yapping about the Android tablet. She KEELED OVER ONTO HIM, for goodness sake. He doesn't even say "Oh my goodness! Are you OK? Let's cut to a commercial, please". How strange. Jen D
The "keep sellin' buddy!" remark, said maliciously and sadistically, IMO, is heard on other posts of this video... which tells me, perhaps, that the persons videoing the screen KNEW this woman was going to be distressed.... perhaps as the result of an electromagnetic weapon attack emanating from the cell tower radio frequency weapon grid this veteran journalist has exposed at VicLivingston(dot)blogspot(dot)com, Dec. 2011 tab. This is the exact same M.O. as was revealed in the Serene Branson TV reporter video about a year ago. aviben
Here's another clue that the people at QVC might have been prepared and expected her to faint again perhaps:

I can't understand why anybody watches QVC. Dave Clemens
They should have switched over to flogging blood pressure monitors, missed an opportunity! Jacob- What's QVC? Is that a new type of flat screen TV?
- Well, I saw the entire segment. It did appear a little cold blooded but they did have others taking care of the lady behind the scenes. Yeah, if this happened at a sports event, they would pause the game until the person is given the proper medical attention. It would have been better if the folks stated what happened to the lady a few minutes later so her friends and family wouldn't panic.
honestly, most viewers didnt even know what happened. QVC is a reputable company who cares about its people. Im sure what went on behind the scene was totally professional and caring. Dont bash them if you werent there! philly ereader
Dan was told to "keep on selling", you could hear it in one of the tapes circulating, but,,, he and the director of the show should have gone to a commercial as soon as the woman started to have a problem. They once again proved, the almighty dollar is more important. I think its funny that Q quickly took down any negatives posted on their boards about what happened and have done so on a few private blog pages as well. They will take our monies, but not our comments. saraj
