Perhaps it was a self-fulfilling prophecy: A couple of months ago rumors began making the rounds that there was trouble in that fabled France-rooted relationship between Johnny Depp and his Gallic muse, Vanessa Paradis.
Today, they came true.
Depp’s rep tells Entertainment Tonight that the couple have officially quit each other after 14 years and two children, Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 9.
“Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have amicably separated. Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children,” the rep says in a terse statement.
People reports that the couple have not appeared together on the red carpet for more than a year. (Families who walk the red carpet together, stay together, my great-granddad used to day.)
Indeed, it appears they have led separate lives for some time. This began when Depp and Paradis, a model, singer and actor quit France, where they lived in the idyllic village of Plan-de-la-Tour, a hamlet of less than 3,000 souls in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France.
Their troubles intensified when they quit this paradise for an extended sojourn in that ugliest, least harmonious, most severe of human environments, Los Angeles.
Says one insider to People, “It's so sad.”
