TheNotebook.org posted here the list of Philadelphia public schools for sale as part of the city school district's slow collapse, along with a list of whom to call if you'd like to buy one.
The district has split the sales among four prominent city brokerages:
Binswanger is marketing the Education Services Building a few blocks below 5th and South Sts., and the old John Paul Jones Middle and the old Frances Willard site.
Grubb and Ellis gets Allegheney/Simon Muhr, George W. Childs in South Philly, Rudolph S. Walton/
Walt D'Alessio's NorthMark gets Alcorn in South Philly, Beeeber in Wynnefield, Elizabeth Gillespie in North Philly.
Concordis gets Ada Lewis uptown, the old Roberto Clemente School at 5th and Luzerne (location corrected), and the former West Philly High.
Several of the schools, notably the old West Philly High (like nearby West Catholic High, slated for closure in June), are on the edge of expanding middle-class residential areas and could attract apartment conversions. Other likely uses include public charter schools or offices.
Now they're selling buildings! Why did they give away all those buildings (some, like Audenreid brand new) to charter operators? What a waste or potential income; of course the charter folks are all politcally connected :-( sabelotodo
Comment removed.
Why not have city buy to house non violent criminals? marcie- Homeless shelters? Ben Fan
West Philly High could be a good site for campus housing as the U of Pa is only a few blocks away. Ditto to the Catholic West Philly school that is slated for closure. James

Stewie-Audenreid, a new building, was given free/gratis to Universal Gamble's company. This isn't the only time buildings were given away. sabelotodo
Ben Fan- That is probably the best and most logical suggestion I've ever read on this page, which is why in Philly, it would never be done. I'm sure that there are hundreds of people who sleep outdoors that would squat in any of these empty buildings if allowed. Give them running water, electricity, beds and a cafeteria and maybe we would't have to spend so much money on "Code Blue's" everytime it gets below freezing. Quantumdave
I hate when the people that write these stories or copy and paste these stories do not check facts. The old Roberto Clemente School is not in Juniata Park and never was at anytime even the new Roberto Clemente School is not in Juniata Park. Please check the facts before printing it's not that hard of a job. There are two other schools above that are not in the section of the city the story says so maybe you can start there since i corrected the one for you. But this is suck an ongoing thing at the two big papers here in town so i don't think the story will change. matthews
I am surprised a school building can go for as little as $250K. Even if it is in the "badlands", a developer will have a field day with those bargain prices. heybiff
Sad. Very sad. brinsley
