Creativity on stage, behind the scenes in 'Bat Boy'

Above the surface no one is privy to what’s below. The satirical and dynamic performance of "Bat Boy: The Musical," by The Belfry Club of Germantown Academy, unconsciously allowed the audience to stay in that world. The vigorous character transitions and the uncontrived plot drastically transformed the audience emotions. Through it all, The Belfry Club of Germantown Academy powerfully executed Bat Boy the Musical.

Through it all, The Belfry Club of Germantown Academy powerfully executed Bat Boy the Musical.

This world renowned American musical depicts the story of Edgar's, a.k.a Bat Boy's, journey from becoming a pernicious creature to a civilized human. His desire to fit in with society is restrained by the man who fabricated him, his father. His father's subdued remorse leads to a tragedy in the town of HopeFalls.

The artistically talented student's, praiseworthy commitment was noticeable throughout the production. The lead actress, Sophie Hearn as Bat Boy, transition was precise as she transformed from Bat Boy to Edgar. Her stylistic body movements and noises seemed to be an uneasy task, but was executed to fit the nature of her character. Additional leading characters: Emma Hearn as Meredith Parker, Erica Nicole Rothman as Shelley Parker, and Nate Mann as Dr. Parker exemplified the phrase, professional actors. The actors developed influential characters that altered the motive of the plot.

Although this musical has a tragic climax, certain characters upheld comical energy. Ebony Rhodes as Reverend Billy Hightower, DaVonne Henry as Sheriff Reynolds, and Alicia Lu as Bud entertained the audience through their charismatic characters. The actors certainly contributed comedic entertainment to the show.

The overall ensemble worked together as one body to enhance the performance. Each ensemble member remained in character. The ensemble also created a character specific to them which created different dynamics to the production. The work of the ensemble could be described as the final touch to the cake.

Overall, the adaptable set, the creative costumes that portrayed the characters, and the amazing lighting effects evidently initiated the astonishing production of The Belfry Club of Germantown Academy Bat Boy the Musical.
