Pa. college among 6 in U.S. chosen for Apple free app development program

Computing giant Apple announced Wednesday it will offer a new app development program and that Harrisburg Community College will among six colleges nationwide to offer it.

The free full-year curriculum is designed for high school and college students with little or no coding experience to learn how to design apps using the popular software language Swift.

On Wednesday, Apple will post the curriculum on its iBooks store, USA TODAY reported.

In the fall, Harrisburg will joinsfive other community colleges nationwide to offer the 180-hour program for no credit. The course could become credit- bearing courses next spring, PennLive reported.

"We think it's huge," Apple CEO Tim Cook told USA TODAY, "and we're so proud to help students learn and thrive in the new economy."
