St. Basil Academy to get new principal

A veteran Catholic educator has been named principal of the Jenkintown school.

A veteran Catholic school educator has been named principal of St. Basil Academy in Jenkintown.

Connie D'Angelo, who served as vice principal of the private, Catholic college-preparatory high school for girls from 2010 to 2012, will become its principal July 1, the school announced.

D'Angelo, who has been the dean of students at Mount St. Joseph Academy in Flourtown, was selected to become St. Basil's principal after a national search. She succeeds Gwen Cote, who is leaving after three years.

D'Angelo's resumé includes 12 years as a classroom teacher and six years as an administrator.

Sister Dorothy Ann Busowski, provincial superior of the Sisters of St. Basil the Great, who sponsors the school, said that "D'Angelo's experience, enthusiasm for Catholic education, and love of St. Basil's made her a unanimous choice."

D'Angelo said it was an honor to return to St. Basil.

"I look forward to being part of a devoted group of lay educators and sisters who help to develop each young woman to her fullest potential," she said in a statement.

The school, rooted in the Ukrainian Byzantine Rite of the Catholic Church, has nearly 250 students.
