Montgomery County Community College on Tuesday named a college administrator from Michigan as its next president.

Kevin Pollock will replace Karen A. Stout, who left the school last year to lead a national advocacy group for community colleges.

Pollock is president of St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron.

"It is my sincere hope that we can work together to build upon the foundation set by the faculty, staff, and Dr. Stout, and advance the college even more so in the future to the benefit of the students and the community," Pollock said in a news release announcing his hiring.

Stout spent 14 years as president of MCCC. During her tenure, the school gained a national reputation as a top community college. She is now president and CEO of Achieving the Dream, an advocacy group for community college reform.

In an announcement of Pollock's hiring, MCCC officials said Pollock is often a national speaker on education issues.

Michael J. D'Aniello, president of MCCC's board of trustees, said Pollock was chosen for his "breadth of experience in higher education."

Pollock will begin his new position April 1. The college's interim president, James J. Linksz, will continue until then.
