College students to volunteer

WEST CHESTER Chester County college students plan to unite Tuesday for volunteer work at several local nonprofits. Cheyney and West Chester Universities are collaborating for the "Good Neighbors" student initiative, a new project organized by a Cheyney student.

The students are to do various activities at organizations in West Chester; make blankets and sandwiches for a homeless shelter; and create educational tool kits, the universities said in statements.

"The goal is to bring the Cheyney and West Chester campuses together to celebrate generosity" said Leonard Brown, the student who thought up the "Good Neighbors" idea.

The activity is scheduled to coincide with #GivingTuesday, a takeoff on Black Friday that encourages people to donate time and money to causes.

"Our vision is to foster a strong relationship with the local community and be recognized as valued contributors," Brown said. - Justine McDaniel
