Springside Chestnut Hill Academy has named a new head of school: Stephen L. Druggan, who grew up in Western Pennsylvania and has been a top administrator at private schools in Indonesia and Germany.

His appointment, announced Thursday by SCH Academy's board of trustees, will take effect July 1, 2016.
Druggan will succeed Mark Segar, who was named interim head after Priscilla Sands stepped down at the end of the last academic year to lead the Marlborough School, a girls' school in Los Angeles.
"After a thorough and open search, I am delighted that SCH Academy has found Steve Druggan to be its next head of school," Richard Hayne, board chair, said in a statement. "The search committee and I believe Steve has the necessary qualities including leadership, resilience and entrepreneurial vision, to advance our school's mission and keep it at the forefront of 21st C[entury] education."
Druggan, 46, who has more than 20 years' experience in private education, has served as deputy head of school for learning at Jakarta Intercultural School since 2011. He was deputy head of the Munich International School from 2009 to 2011.
SCH Academy trustees and search committee members also said Druggan would bring an appreciation of global education and a passion to integrate technology throughout the curriculum.
Druggan received support from faculty, students, parents, alumni, and administrators during a visit to the school's 64-acre campus in Chestnut Hill.
He said he was attracted to the school by its focus on innovation, rigorous academics, and the happiness of its students.
Druggan's educational background includes an Ed.D. in organizational management from Nova Southeastern University in Miami, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the United States International University in London, and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Slippery Rock University.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy enrolls 1,100 students. Under the school's unusual model, students have single-sex classes from pre-K through eighth grade, then coed classes for grades 9 through 12.
