Williamson students make top 10 at national competition

MEDIA Three students at the Williamson College of the Trades placed in the top 10 in a recent national SkillsUSA competition.

Cody Palmer, a construction technology-masonry student, won a silver medal in the masonry competition. Bill Davis, a construction technology-carpentry student, was seventh in the carpentry competition, and Joe Goodwin, a machine tool technology student, was ninth in the computer numerical controls technician competition.

The event, held in Louisville, Ky., featured more than 6,000 career and technical education students competing in 100 different trade, technical, and leadership fields. To be eligible to compete in the national round, students first had to win skills competitions at the local, district, and state levels.

On Wednesday, Williamson College of the Trades changed its name from Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades. The school provides free tuition and offers programs in carpentry, masonry, horticulture, landscaping, turf management, machine tools, painting, and power-plant technology.
