College fencing championships this weekend in Bensalem

BUCKS COUNTY College fencing championships this weekend BENSALEM Billed as the largest college fencing event in the world, the USACFC College Fencing National Championships is scheduled to be held Saturday and Sunday at Bensalem High School.

BENSALEM Billed as the largest college fencing event in the world, the USACFC College Fencing National Championships is scheduled to be held Saturday and Sunday at Bensalem High School.

The event is free and open to the public.

More than 40 colleges and universities and 700 fencers are expected to compete. Local entries include Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr Colleges.

The men's competition is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and the women's at 1:30 p.m. The finals are set to end Sunday at 1:30 p.m. for the men and 6:30 p.m. for the women.

The Liberty Fencing Club and the Swarthmore fencing team are serving as hosts. The championships were held at Swarthmore in 2010.

Bensalem High School is at 4319 Hulmeville Rd.

The U.S. Association of Collegiate Fencing Clubs (USACFC) was established in 2003 to educate and promote fencing at the college level. It began with 13 teams and has grown to more than 45. - Inquirer staff
