Temple, faculty reach tentative agreement on contract

Members of the Temple University faculty union would receive across-the-board raises of slightly over 1.6 percent each year for the next four years under a tentative contract agreement reached last week. The agreement would also make union members eligible for 5 percent to 6 percent increases in merit pay over the next four years.

The agreement would also make union members eligible for 5 percent to 6 percent increases in merit pay over the next four years.

"Of course, we didn't get all that we asked for," Art Hochner, president of the 1,400-member Temple Association of University Professionals, said in an e-mail to members. "We also accepted some increases in co-pays for health-care visits, but were able to get them phased in. Nevertheless, on balance there are many gains and very few losses in the tentative agreement."

Union members have until Monday to vote on the proposed pact, which must also be approved by the university's board of trustees. - Susan Snyder
