A retired Pennridge High School football coach died Saturday after he was injured in a car accident while leaving a Friday night football game at Central Bucks South High School.

Charles "Bud" Hollenbach, 89, of Sellersville - father of Pennridge High's current football coach - was riding in a car driven by his wife, Margaret, 84, when the crash occurred, the Doylestown Intelligencer reported Saturday.

The couple had attended the game to watch the Pennridge High team, coached by their son Jeff Hollenbach, play.

According to police, the Hollenbachs' car was leaving a parking lot when it struck three other cars. Five people were taken to Abington Memorial Hospital with injuries, the Intelligencer said.

The hospital confirmed Hollenbach's death last night.

The elder Hollenbach taught at Pennridge High from 1952 to 1985. He was a member of the football team's coaching staff for 25 years, and was inducted into the Pennridge-Quakertown Area Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012, the newspaper said.

Jeff Hollenbach was head coach at Pennridge from 1997 to 2004, and returned to coach the team last year, the Intelligencer said.
