Del Val College student is named dairy princess

DOYLESTOWN Ashley Mohn, a science major from the Class of 2016 at Delaware Valley College, was crowned as the Pennsylvania 2014-15 Dairy Princess last month after a three-day competition with 26 other county dairy princesses.

Each contestant prepared a speech and presentation, and, optionally, participated in a radio spot and poster display promoting milk and dairy products. They also submitted a scrapbook of promotion activities, took a dairy industry knowledge quiz, and interviewed with a panel of four judges.

"I am looking forward to interacting with consumers and sharing the Pennsylvania dairy farmer's story throughout the state," Mohn said.

Mohn won the poster, presentation, and scrapbook competitions, was runner-up in the radio spot contest, and received honorable mention in the speech competition.

She is an orientation leader and member of Sigma Alpha agricultural sorority. For the next year, Mohn will represent Pennsylvania's dairy industry and its 7,400 dairy farm families.

The dairy industry is the state's top agriculture industry, contributing nearly $6 billion to the economy and supporting more than 60,000 jobs across the state.
