Chichester is second in state contest

BOOTHWYN The Chichester School District was honored by the state this month for using grant money to increase parent involvement.

The district holds "family literacy nights" for parents and students in sixth grade through high school. The program won second place and a $6,500 prize at a state conference for school districts receiving Keystone Opportunity Grants. Chichester Assistant Superintendent Kathleen Sherman said school districts competed to showcase their use of the grant funding.

The literacy nights, held twice each school year, include hands-on activities, with parents invited to watch their children learn. Each night has a different theme. - Laura McCrystal
