Chestnut Hill student found dead in dorm

CHESTNUT HILL Philadelphia police are investigating the death of a Chestnut Hill College student found dead in his dorm Wednesday morning.

The college identified the student as Bradley David Amerman, a senior business major from Mount Joy, Lancaster County.

"The Chestnut Hill College community mourns the loss," Lisa Mixon, spokeswoman for the Catholic college, said in a statement Wednesday. "The college is refraining from offering details of the incident because it is under investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department, which is normal under these circumstances."

A police spokeswoman said there was nothing suspicious about Amerman's death but noted that the investigation continues.

Chestnut Hill College enrolls 2,200 students.

Medics were called to St. Joseph Hall around 8:45 a.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive student. The 22-year-old was not breathing and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Under any circumstances, the events of today have left our campus community shocked and filled with sadness for Bradley David Amerman and his family," Mixon said. "We ask that you join us in continuing to keep the Amerman family in your prayers at this time of great sorrow."

She said funeral arrangements were incomplete.

Publications on the college website indicate that Amerman was sophomore class president in 2011-12. He also played quidditch for the college's team, the Griffins, including at the Quidditch World Cup in New York City in 2011.

For the last four years, Chestnut Hill has hosted the City of Brotherly Love quidditch tournament. Quidditch is a game inspired by the Harry Potter book and movie series.
