2,000 scholarships available for elementary students

THE CHILDREN'S Scholarship Fund Philadelphia has 2,000 four-year scholarships to private and parochial elementary schools available for low-income children. Recipients will be chosen by lottery in mid-March. The fund, supported by private donors, is in the second year of a five-year campaign to provide 10,000 such scholarships. It has received more than $18 million in pledges toward a goal of $32 million.

Recipients will be chosen by lottery in mid-March. The fund, supported by private donors, is in the second year of a five-year campaign to provide 10,000 such scholarships. It has received more than $18 million in pledges toward a goal of $32 million.

About 175 private and parochial schools, kindergarten through eighth grade, are participating. The tuition average of the schools is $3,000 a year.

Applications are available online at csfphiladelphia.org, all branches of the Free Library, YMCAs, Police Athletic League and park and recreation centers. Deadline is March 1.
