Four college fairs scheduled in Philadelphia

Philadelphia will host several college fairs for parents and students next week as part of the city's first College Awareness Week, Mayor Nutter announced yesterday. Events include:

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday: Student Achievement College Affair at Childs School, 1541 S. 17th St. State Rep. Kenyatta Johnson will host the fair, featuring representatives from 30 area colleges and universities, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday: National College Fair at the Convention Center. The fair, put on by the National Association of College Admission Counseling, will feature more than 400 colleges and universities.

5:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 18: College Prep Workshop and Resource Fair at Philadelphia High School for Girls, 1400 W. Olney Ave. An information session targeting middle school students and their families, it will cover high school and college expectations and financial aid strategies.

3:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 19: Historically Black College and University Fair at Benjamin Franklin High School, 550 N. Broad St. The Philadelphia School District will sponsor this fair. - Susan Snyder
