Truck Stop: Local 215 Food Truck

The menu changes regularly, but the pig on the side of the truck makes one thing clear.

What to eat: The menu changes regularly, but the pig on the side of the truck makes one thing clear: pork lovers will think they've died and gone to a slow-braised heaven.

The details: Pork fritters with pistachio, whole grain mustard and capers (four for $6) are always popular. Pork-belly buns ($8) come with pickled vegetables, cucumbers and sesame chili aioli ($8). We tried one pulled pork sandwich without sauce ($7) and another with cheese and onions ($8). Both rocked. If you're not in the mood for pork, you can try an heirloom tomato salad ($7), fried pickles ($5) or the fingerling potato hash ($4).

Drinks: Water ($1) and soda ($2).

Where to find it: 33rd and Arch streets, LOVE Park, the Porch at 30th Street Station and the Navy Yard are among Local 215's favorite spots.

Social stuff: Twitter (@Local215), Facebook (Local 215) and at local215foodtruck.com.

Backstory: Co-owners John Murphy, 25, and Alex Buckner, 27, opened Local 215 last August. They started out making scattered appearances but are now open five or six days a week - and getting a heavy bevy of catering requests. "We're trying to constantly rotate the menu, because we have a lot of repeat customers, and we want them to have something different," Murphy said.

Future story: With autumn - and, hopefully, cooler weather - on the horizon, Local 215 will start to feature soups, bisques and purees. The owners emphasize local sourcing for meats and vegetables. They're also eyeing ways to get their products on shelves at local stores, like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. "Ultimately, the goal of every truck owner is to franchise or get a brick-and-mortar restaurant," Murphy said.
