Chloë Grace Moretz defends her new 'Mermaid' role

Empowered 'Mermaid'

Chloë Grace Moretz, 19, says she's not betraying her feminist convictions by starring as Ariel in a remake of The Little Mermaid.

"We want to make this good for girls," she tells Complex mag. "We can't make this a regressive tale in a modern world. We're going to flip it on its head. It's going to feel good for women and men, in the sense that it's not just appropriating feminism, and it's not leaning on regressive stereotypes."

Moretz, who starred as a teen vampire in Let Me In, says she doesn't want to alienate folks who may not like her outspoken views.

"I want people to really love me and what I've done," she says, "and let me be a part of their lives at home."

Sarah Palin's court

Judge Judy, step aside. Former VP candidate and No. 1 Trump supporter Sarah Palin may be headed to court, says Variety. She will be adding to her impressive resumé by putting on a judicial robe. No, she has not been nominated to the Supreme Court. Palin, 52, has signed to star in a syndicated Judge Judy-like courtroom reality program.

Palin hasn't shot a pilot yet, but Warm Springs production company out of the great state of Montana will be looking for takers for the possible syndicated series, which they hope to launch in 2017. Does the former Alaska governor have a law degree, you ask? Nyet. But Warm Springs supposedly couldn't pass on her "telegenic personality, wide appeal and common sense wisdom (that) make her a natural for this kind of format." Judge Judy vs Judge Palin? The jury won't be out long.

Hilary Swank to wed

Hilary Swank, 41, plans to try her hand at marriage again. The Boys Don't Cry thesp, who divorced Chad Lowe in '07 after 10 years of marriage, has become engaged to former tennis pro Ruben Torres after dating him for nearly a year, her rep tells People.

Swank shows off her ring in a photo on Instagram. "Went on a hike and this happened," she writes in the caption.
