The industry hatches deals in hotel rooms, over drinks at evening parties, and aboard yachts just off the beach. Toback, director of Fingers and Tyson, will document the process of selling a film at Cannes while also trying to land financing for a fictional film. "The Big B" had been calling his granddaughter "Beti B."

Weekend box office

Superhero action dominated the box office charts over the weekend. The Avengers muscled out its naval rival, Battleship, with $55.1 million domestically, approaching the $1.2 billion mark worldwide. It is the studio's highest-grossing film ever, according to one report. The Dictator debuted in third-place, followed by Dark Shadows and What to Expect When You're Expecting at No. 5.
