Thanksgiving Day football matters! At least it does for the 32 Southeastern Pennsylvania teams that will play on this year's holiday.

The granddaddy of all Turkey Day games, Central vs. Northeast, dates to 1892. The host Vikings aim to beat the Lancers for the third time this year. Northeast won the first two meetings by a combined score of 87-0.

To have any of chance of shocking the Vikings, the Central defense must slow a run-heavy attack that features running backs Danny Scott and Sameen Thompson and quarterback Jaye McNeil.

The Vikings, who won last year's meeting by a 32-26 decision, have a 59-52-10 edge in the series. The Lancers last won in 2013, by 6-3 in overtime.

Staying in Northeast Philadelphia, Father Judge tries to salvage a disappointing season by beating Rowland Avenue neighbor Lincoln for the 28th consecutive time.

A Judge defense headed by linebacker Mark Maguire and end Tim Weldon looks to keep Lincoln's Sammy Karr, a halfback who has carried 224 times for 1,805 yards and 23 touchdowns, from breaking off long gains.

Archbishop Ryan visits George Washington at Mickey Young Memorial Stadium. The Raiders rolled to a 54-12 victory last year and have a 30-9-1 series advantage.

Ryan's offense is keyed quarterback Jahlil Saunders and running back Jason Jefferson. Washington relies on quarterback Cameron Gontek, who was a backup signal-caller for Ryan last season.

Boys' Latin is Frankford's third holiday rival at Large and Dyre Streets in as many seasons. Frankford fell to Conwell-Egan, 35-14, last season and beat Prep Charter, 26-21, in 2015.

Boys' Latin's Malik Johnson, a dual-threat quarterback, has thrown for 771 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 1,018 yards and 14 scores.

Haverford's Jake Ruane has passed for 1,853 yards and 22 touchdowns. His top targets are Jordan Mosley (48 catches for 763 yards and eight touchdowns), Carrington Hooks (24 for 391, five), and Trey Blair (24 for 264, four).

The Fords defense must keep a close eye on speedy quarterback Josh Gouch, who has scrambled for 1,132 yards and 15 touchdowns and passed for 1,125 yards and 10 scores.

Interboro and Ridley renew their fierce rivalry at Phil Marion Field. The Green Raiders downed the Bucs, 29-22, last season.

In Bucks County, Route 309 neighbors Quakertown and Pennridge meet for the second time in three weeks at Helman Field. The Rams blanked the Panthers, 24-0, in the first round of the PIAA District 1 Class 6A playoffs.

Bicentennial Athletic League foes Bristol and Morrisville renew a series that began in 1928. Bristol, a 32-24 victor last season, is ahead by 46-36-4.

Will it be another thriller between Suburban One League American Conference rivals Hatboro-Horsham and Upper Moreland? The visiting Golden Bears outlasted the Hatters, 41-40, on Sept. 23.

Pennridge (10-3) at Quakertown (7-3), 10:15 a.m. Jeff Hollenbach ends his 13-year career as the Rams head coach on a winning note. Pick: Pennridge, 34-19.

Central (3-8) at Northeast (7-3), 10:30 a.m. The top prize, a wooden horse trophy, is up for grabs at Charlie Martin Memorial Stadium. Pick: Northeast, 32-8.
