Rick's Picks: Turkey Day

We take a break from all the playoff action to focus on Thanksgiving Day matchups. By our count, 22 games are on tap over the next two days.

Interboro vs. Ridley, put on hold last year because of Interboro's involvement in the playoffs, is back on the slate.

Because of low numbers, Morrisville has forfeited its scheduled game against Bucks County rival Bristol. The Bulldogs and Warriors first started playing in 1928 and last met in 2011.

Jeff Hollenbach, who returned to coach at Pennridge after an eight-year break, gets to face Route 309 neighbor Quakertown again.

Central vs. Northeast is the granddaddy of all Turkey Day games, dating to 1892. Northeast has a 61-51-10 lead in the series.

Also in Northeast Philly, Archbishop Ryan is pitted against George Washington. The Raiders and Eagles hope to ease the disappointment associated with falling short of their goals in the Catholic and Public League, respectively.

Imhotep Charter vs. Martin Luther King has some intrigue, but Imhotep, which is set to continue in the PIAA Class AA playoffs Saturday, might end up using its starters for only a quarter or so.

Could Conwell-Egan vs. Harry S Truman offer more drama? Last year, Truman escaped its Bucks County rival in double overtime, 34-31.

No. 8 Ryan (7-3) at Washington (5-5, 4-1), 10. The host Eagles' focus will be on slowing 1,700-yard rusher Samir Bullock. The Raiders lead the series by 26-9-1. Pick: Ryan, 34-7.

Central (6-5) at Northeast (5-6), 10. Walter Pegues and the visiting Lancers, who last beat the Vikings in 2004, look to avenge last year's 14-12 loss. Pick: Central, 26-20.

No. 21 Father Judge (6-4) at Lincoln (5-6), 10. Can Lincoln defy the odds and post its first win over its down-the-block foe since 1989? The Crusaders lead the series, 34-3-1. Pick: Judge, 47-6.

Neumann-Goretti (6-4) at Southern (8-3), 10. Bryant Hudgins and the host Rams need to keep the Saints from finding 6-foot-6 wideout Jamal Custis on fade tosses. Overall, Neumann-Goretti leads, 55-20-3. Pick: N-G, 26-8.

Conwell-Egan (3-7) at Harry S Truman (4-6), 10. Ty Walker's 4-yard catch was the difference in last year's taut contest. C-E leads on Thanksgiving, 10-8. Pick: Truman, 30-21.

Quakertown (6-4, 3-3 Suburban One Continental) at Pennridge (7-4, 3-3), 10:15. Pennridge's Mike Class, with 5,481 career rushing yards, plays for the last time at Poppy Yoder Field. The Rams have a 52-26-5 advantage. Pick: Pennridge, 33-7.

Interboro (5-5, 3-2) at Ridley (6-4), 10:30. The host Green Raiders plan to end on a high note against the injury-depleted Bucs. Pick: Ridley, 22-14.

No. 1 Imhotep (10-1) vs. Martin Luther King (9-3), 10:30. Delane Hart and company hope to catch the Panthers looking ahead to Catasauqua, their playoff opponent. Pick: Imhotep, 49-13.

Upper Darby (8-3, 7-1 Central) at Haverford High (7-3, 6-2), 10:45. The Fords have won the last three years, but the Royals have a 43-42-6 edge. Pick: Upper Darby, 27-14.
