The William Penn Foundation has made permanent its interim executive director. Shawn McCaney, 52, interim since November, was the foundation’s choice for the job after conducting a national search, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.
McCaney will oversee William Penn’s $112 million annual grantmaking and evaluation budget. A former urban planner, McCaney joined the foundation in 2003 and most recently was director of its national initiatives and creative communities grant program. With an endowment whose market value was $2.3 billion as of Dec. 2016, the William Penn is Philadelphia’s largest foundation focused on the area, with giving interests in education, the environment, arts and culture and the development of public spaces.
