The Old Spice Guy tries to stop an epidemic

 ISAIAH MUSTAFA, better known to you as the "Old Spice Guy," is in Philly today talking about an epidemic. No, not zombies, or some horrible disease. But over-scenting.

Mustafa will be at Parkway Center City High School and Drexel to talk about proper hygiene. Mustafa, who has toured with Old Spice for five years, but has never spent much time in Philly, told me that it's coaches and other high school higher-ups who refer to over-scenting as an epidemic.

"I remember when I was younger, if you gave me an aerosol can, I just wanted to spray it until it was gone. Boys just want to play pranks on each other," Mustafa said.

"Have you ever dealt with that?" he asked me.

Come to think of some recent bar experiences I've had, maybe Mustafa could hit up some Center City hot spots next? He laughed.

"We get them while they're young," he said.

While in Philly, Mustafa hopes to catch tonight's playoff game against the Rangers. Turns out, Mustafa is a big hockey fan and has loved Wayne Simmonds since he was on the L.A. Kings. He was even a fan of Eric Lindros' Legion of Doom. But, with no affiliation for either team, who will he root for? "Naturally, the Flyers," he said. Good choice.

* Speaking of the Flyers, they'll be at the Shops at Liberty Place (1625 Chestnut St.) for a lunchtime pep rally today at noon.

*  Fox 29 fans will see reporters Bruce Gordon and Dave Schratwieser on the 10 p.m. broadcast. While a rep tells me the station is trying something new, I hear flagging ratings may be an issue. The big kahunas think Gordon and Schratwieser are two of their best reporters.

* 6ABC's Alicia Vitarelli returned from maternity leave yesterday. Our own Big Rube Harley caught her hanging out in Center City, pushing new babe, Priscilla, around in her pram.

J'Nean Caserta, a grandmother, breast-cancer survivor and, oh yeah, 13-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, will be on "Steve Harvey" today for recently being named the first African-American female member of the S.W.A.T. team. Catch Caserta, who will be part of the "Female Ground Breaker" segment, at 2 p.m. on NBC.

My buddy Jenice Armstrong attended the opening gala of "Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love" exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Saturday night to fete the designer who was a force in the '80s, and died tragically of complications from AIDS in 1990. The exhibit runs through Nov. 30.

Many attendees knew Kelly. Armstrong ran into the likes of iconic African-American model Pat Cleveland (and her equally beautiful daughter Anne), who walked the runway for Kelly in his heyday. Fashionista-about-town Cheryl Wadlington chatted about how she and Kelly used to room together back when he was a struggling designer in Atlanta. City Representative Melanie Johnson also knew Kelly: "He had an energy that encompassed everyone," she told Armstrong. "He was full of life and his designs were just fun."

Malcolm Jenkins, the new Eagles safety and bow-tie designer in his own right, also paid tribute to Kelly.

* Speaking of the Kelly exhibit, Philly's own John Wind Maximal Art Jewelry created an exclusive line for the exhibit, available at the museum gift shop. Wind and president Robbin Cook of the jewelry design company were recently honored at the Cancer Support Community Spring Gala, along with the "Today" show's Hoda Kotb and Fox News' Jennifer Griffin.

* Top designer Michael Kors was seen heading into Hello Home (1004 Pine St.), Macy's (1300 Market St.) and Joan Shepp (1625 Chestnut St.) yesterday. I hear he was visiting the aforementioned Patrick Kelly exhibit.

* Food Network Chef Daisy Martinez was in town Thursday for Dining Out For Life. My spies tell me she hit up various Philly spots, including Talula's Garden (210 W. Washington Square). On Wednesday, Martinez was seen lunching at Parc (227 S. 18th St.) and later that evening was spotted having drinks at Valanni (1229 Spruce St.).
