Oh, deer: Radio jocks Camp Out for Hunger

THE WHOLE POINT of Preston Elliot and Steve Morrison's Camp Out for Hunger is to collect nonperishable goods to donate to Philabundance. But in Camp Out for Hunger's 16-year existence, that hasn't stopped fans from bringing snacks to the WMMR mainstays, even though all their grub is provided for.

"There's a couple that comes out every year, and they have decided to make us homemade venison chili," Elliot told me. "I don't know if it was killed yesterday or last season . . . "

" . . . Or if it's human flesh," Morrison interjected.

Keep that in mind, Camp Out for Hunger participants: Keep the deer meat on the downlow.

(Still, that's not the weirdest item ever brought: "One year, a guy had actually shown up and gone to the salad bar at a supermarket," Morrison said. But, hey, the DJ duo are grateful for the thought.)

With or without the possibly cannibalistic chili, Elliot and Morrison will once again take to a trailer and live there from Dec. 2 to 6. For the record, Elliot is the messier of the two, and Morrison prefers the berth near the driver to sleep in.

"I just want to think I'm on a 1930s train," Morrison said.

"It's like being in 'Some Like it Hot,' " Elliot said.

"And I'm usually dressed like a woman too," Morrison said.

They're changing it up a bit this year though, switching to the more centralized location with the parking lot of Xfinity Live (1100 Pattison Ave.), making it easier for do-gooders to donate. As in year's past, celebs will stop by to lend their support, like Adam McKay, the locally raised writer/director of "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," all six of the city's Division I men's college basketball coaches, Eagles, Sixers, musical acts (Living Colour, Matisyahu) and more.

So what are Elliot and Morrison's post-Camp Out plan?

"The first thing I do is walk the dog. You sort of decompress. I try to do everything I do quickly, because I will crash like a ton of bricks," Morrison said. "It's the longest personal appearance of your career. It starts Monday and just keeps going."

Elliot has a different approach: "I take a shower and get in my underwear and stay that way all day."

* The Flyers are also getting in on the Camp Out. All proceeds from their 50/50 raffle during Friday's game against the Winnipeg Jets will go to Philabundance. Fans are also encouraged to bring canned goods to get a jump on the Camp Out.

This tidbit is brought to you from courts reporter Julie Shaw: At the federal racketeering trial of reputed mob boss Joseph "Uncle Joe" Ligambi and his nephew George Borgesi on Friday, a former FBI agent who had gone undercover with New York's Gambino mob family, Joaquin "Jack" Garcia, testified that a movie is in the works about him. Garcia wrote the book Making Jack Falcone about his time with the Gambinos. He said that Steven Soderbergh is set to produce a movie based on the book, and Benicio del Toro is to play him.

Boxers Bernard Hopkins and Danny Garcia may be fierce inside the ring, but they're big ol' softies outside of it. To celebrate Thanksgiving, Hopkins and Garcia will give out turkeys to needy families. There are two chances for turkeying it up: Tomorrow, the turkeys will be doled out at 2 p.m. at Red Cross House (4000 Powelton Ave.). On Tuesday, the giveaway starts at 11 a.m. at the Spring Garden Wash & Lube (1111 Spring Garden St.). The giveaways end when the turkeys are gone.

* Comedian Carrot Top stopped by Rittenhouse Square, where he snapped up some veggies from the Daily News' own Reuben Harley's farmstand.

* Tristan Wilds, who played Michael Lee on the fourth and fifth seasons of "The Wire" and recently ended a run on the CW's "90210," danced the night away at Silk City (435 Spring Garden St.) on Friday night to the stylings of DJ Stretch Armstrong.

* Carlos Ruiz celebrated his new three-year contract with the Phillies on Thursday night at Citron and Rose (370 Montgomery Ave, Merion Station) with his agent. I hear the very happy Ruiz gladly took pics with staffers.
