LEODIS McKELVIN found out Josh Huff was no longer his Eagles teammate just before practice Thursday. "By him coming by shaking everybody's hands," McKelvin said. "Sad. Sorry to hear that, sorry to hear that it happened. I wish him the best of luck . . . It surprised me," but not totally, McKelvin said. He said he knew first-year Eagles coach Doug Pederson was facing questions about his control of the team, which has faced four well-publicized incidents involving police since June.
THE EAGLES break their pregame huddle each week with the band-of-brothers chant: "We all we got!" That just might be the case when it comes to their beleaguered wide receiving corps. Doug Pederson, who usually deflects questions about personnel moves to de facto general manager Howie Roseman, said Wednesday that "there's no legitimacy" to reports that the team is looking to trade for a wide receiver before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.
THE EAGLES have lost their last two games mainly because they were outplayed early; they fell behind, 14-0, at Detroit and at Washington. In both games, they took a ridiculous amount of penalties and were mistake-ridden enough that, had they managed to pull out a win in the final minutes, it would have felt like thievery.
THIS EAGLES coaching staff seems to want to err on the side of youth, whenever possible. Right now, much of the Delaware Valley is thinking that Doug Pederson and offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland are erring just a tad too much to that side. Some fans might opt for even more pungent wording.
LANDOVER, Md. - So, who are the Eagles? The version we saw Sunday at FedEx Field looked like the 5-11-type team many of us envisioned back in training camp, before the Wentz Wagon and bludgeoning the Steelers and a 3-0 record going into the bye happened.
THE EAGLES play an aggressive style of defense. Sunday, they encountered a Detroit team that found first-half success using that aggressiveness against them, with screens, traps and draws, though the Birds closed most of that down in the second half; in fact, they still haven't given up a second-half touchdown this season.
